Dataset name:

The State Environmental Monitoring – The air quality monitoring – the state of the ozone layer

The history of creating a harmonized spatial data set

Source data comes from the CIEP file database, which is a copy of data on air quality monitoring in terms of ozone layer and the UV-B radiation intensity measurements over Poland (the source database operates at Institute of Geophysics Polish Academy of Sciences and Institute of Meteorology and Water Management – National Research Institute (IMGW-PIB)). The data were transformed in accordance with INSPIRE models in subjects of Environmental Monitoring Facilities (EF) and Atmospheric Conditions (AC) in versions of schemas 4.0. Technical guidelines for EF and AC subjects are available in the specification D2.8.II / III.7 INSPIRE Data Specification on Environmental Monitoring Facilities – Technical Guidelines and D2.8.III.13-14 Data Specification on Atmospheric Conditions and Meteorological Geographical Features – Technical Guidelines.

Dataset description:

The spatial dataset concerns measurements of the ozone layer and UV-B radiation intensity over Poland, carried out as part of the air quality monitoring subsystem of the State Environmental Monitoring. The purpose of the conducted measurements is to provide information which allows to assess the effectiveness of the activities to protect the ozone layer undertaken by international society basing on the protocols to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer, which establish the scope and schedules of the elimination of the substances damaging the ozone layer. The measurements are conducted basing on the national network constituting an element of the Global Ozone Observing System (GO3OS) and they include: daily measurements of total ozone contents in the atmosphere by means of the Dobson and Brewer spectrophotometer and on cloudless days – by Umkehr vertical ozone profile measurements at the Belsk station, the measurements of ozone profiles using the probe method once a week at Legionowo station the determination of total ozone contents fields over Europe by means of satellite observations, the measurements of UV-B radiation intensity. Basing on the obtained data, the state of the ozone layer and UV-B radiation for Poland is assessed in connection with the assessment of the state of the ozone layer at global level.
